President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has emphasized that the government’s foremost priority will be eliminating rural poverty, asserting that effective governance requires close connections with the people.
Speaking at a public rally in Matara, President Dissanayake underscored the importance of ministers working within local communities rather than operating from Colombo. He announced that ministers in the upcoming Parliament will not receive housing in Colombo, stating, “We need a government that connects with the people directly.” He stressed that leaders must be present in their districts to address local issues firsthand.
President Dissanayake also outlined plans to establish a new cabinet and government after November 14, focused on developing “people’s leaders” dedicated to resolving grassroots challenges.
“This government must reach the villages to fulfill its responsibilities, with the key task ahead being to eradicate rural poverty,” he added.
