President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized the importance of rebuilding Sri Lanka’s education system to meet global demands, in order to achieve the country’s long-term educational goals.
He noted that children must be equipped with the knowledge necessary to enhance the nation’s human capital and drive future progress. The President further stressed that education officials bear the responsibility of creating the workforce required by the world in the next decade, urging them to align educational initiatives with this vision, the President’s Media Division (PMD) reported.
These remarks were made today (16) during a progress review meeting for the Ministries of Education, Science, and Technology at the Presidential Secretariat.
The meeting, co-chaired by President Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, included extensive discussions on five key projects under the ministries. Key areas of focus included modernizing school education, enhancing teacher training, advancing secondary education, improving technical education, and promoting information technology education, according to the PMD.
Both the President and Prime Minister instructed officials to expedite the implementation of these projects, and attention was given to reorganizing the school system to ensure that educational reforms are accessible and effective for all students.
Further discussions were held on expanding the number of schools offering science, mathematics, and technology curricula for Advanced Level students, the PMD added.
The meeting was attended by Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Tilaka Jayasundara, and other ministry officials.
