President of Iran, Dr. Ebrahim Raisi Arrives in Sri Lanka for One-Day Visit

President of Iran, Dr. Ebrahim Raisi, arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday morning (24) for a one-day visit. Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena warmly welcomed him at the Mattala International Airport.

At the invitation of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Iranian president’s visit follows the conclusion of his three-day visit to neighbouring Pakistan. This marks the first visit of an Iranian President to Sri Lanka since former President Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit in April 2008.

During his brief stay in the island nation, Dr. Raisi, alongside President Ranil Wickremesinghe, will partake in a public ceremony commemorating the inauguration of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project (UOMDP).

In anticipation of Dr. Raisi’s visit, the Sri Lanka Police has implemented special traffic arrangements in Colombo and Mattala. Vehicular movement will be restricted on several roads, including the Colombo-Katunayake expressway and the main road from Mattala to Uma Oya.

Simultaneous with Dr. Raisi’s visit, Sri Lanka and Iran will sign five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) today, aiming to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations.
