The new President of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, hosted a meeting with the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, on Friday evening (Nov. 17) at Kurumba Maldives.
During the meeting, President Dr. Muizzu expressed gratitude and warmly welcomed President Wickremesinghe for attending the Maldives’ presidential inauguration, highlighting the significance of the visit in strengthening the close bilateral ties between the two nations.
President Wickremesinghe congratulated President Dr. Muizzu on assuming office. The leaders discussed the longstanding bilateral relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, emphasizing the need to further strengthen ties. The Maldives President’s Office issued a statement, stating that the leaders addressed mutual interests, including education, multiple visa entries for students under 18, and economic recovery efforts.
In a diplomatic gesture, President Wickremesinghe extended an invitation for President Dr. Muizzu to make a state visit to Sri Lanka at his earliest convenience, an invitation which President Dr. Muizzu graciously accepted.
