President Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived in Parliament this morning, shortly after the commencement of the parliamentary session. He is currently delivering a special statement in Parliament regarding the implementation of debt restructuring agreements.
Meanwhile, the debate and vote in Parliament on these agreements, originally scheduled for today and tomorrow, have been postponed.
Earlier, Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena had formally notified all Members of Parliament to attend a special parliamentary sitting on July 2, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. This sitting was convened under Standing Order No. 16 of the Parliament’s Standing Orders, at the request of the Prime Minister.
