In a significant address during the fifth session of the ninth Parliament, President Ranil Wickremesinghe extended an invitation to all political parties to collaborate and embrace a shared vision and common purpose for the betterment of Sri Lanka.
Highlighting the recent example set by the majority of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), who have set aside past animosities and reached a consensus for the nation’s welfare and the prosperity of its youth, President Wickremesinghe urged other political parties to adopt a similar perspective.
“Why can’t we unite in a shared vision for the country’s well-being and the future? Why can’t we reach a collective understanding for the benefit of our nation’s youth? Why can’t we join hands to reach great heights?” questioned the President.
President Wickremesinghe acknowledged the collaboration between longstanding political allies and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, emphasizing that if the Podujana Peramuna can unite for the greater good, other parties can follow suit.
Referencing the period of ‘Good Governance,’ the President pointed out the cooperation between the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and the then government, urging the JVP to join forces for the betterment of the nation.
While acknowledging that political parties may compete in elections separately, President Wickremesinghe called for collaboration in nation-building endeavors, emphasizing the need to prioritize the collective aspirations of the nation over personal ambitions.
“I extend my invitation once more to embrace a shared vision and common purpose for our country. Let us initiate change within ourselves, fostering unity and enlightenment,” urged President Wickremesinghe. He concluded by emphasizing the commitment to enriching the lives of the youth and future generations and called for building a new era for the beloved country through collective efforts.
