President Ranil Wickremesinghe Invites Political Party Leaders for IMF Agreement Discussions

In a recent development, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has extended an invitation to all political party leaders in the Parliament to participate in discussions with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concerning the implementation of the agreement with the IMF, as stated by the President’s Media Division (PMD).

Underlining the paramount significance of unity in steering the country towards success, President Wickremesinghe emphasized that any deviation from the agreement could potentially undermine trust in Sri Lanka’s economy.

During the International Customs Day celebrations at the Colombo Customs Headquarters this morning, the President conveyed his concerns about the adverse impact of the nation’s economy, attributing it to the politics of promises. He stressed the imperative for all political parties to formulate comprehensive plans for the country’s development, especially in the lead-up to an election.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed his gratitude to all members of the Customs Department for their substantial contributions to customs revenue in 2023. Underscoring customs tax, VAT, and income tax as the three primary global sources of income, he highlighted the crucial need to enhance the efficiency of the customs service to bolster the country’s revenue. Additionally, the President mentioned that forthcoming government legislation and modernization initiatives are poised to revamp all public revenue-generating institutions.
