President Ranil Wickremesinghe will kick off his election campaign with an inaugural public rally on August 17 at Salgado Stadium in Anuradhapura. The event will feature representatives from various supporting parties and groups, including those who have joined from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
In related news, former Minister Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa has publicly declared his support for President Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential Election, officially announcing his decision during a meeting with the President on August 12.
Additionally, President Wickremesinghe engaged in discussions with representatives from Tamil parties in the Northern Province on August 12, focusing on addressing the challenges faced by the Tamil community in the North.
A new alliance in support of President Wickremesinghe is set to be formed on August 16, with political parties and organizations, including SLPP members backing the President, expected to be involved.
Furthermore, Member of Parliament Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has announced that a group of MPs supporting the President is in the process of establishing the ‘People’s United Front’.
