President Wickremesinghe to Unveil Vision for a New Sri Lanka in Upcoming Manifesto

President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that he will present his manifesto, detailing his vision and plans to build a new Sri Lanka, on Thursday, August 29. The manifesto will include initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all citizens and ensuring a safe environment for the nation’s youth.

The announcement was made during his address at the “Puluwan Sri Lanka” rally held near the Mawanella bus station.

President Wickremesinghe stressed the importance of maintaining the country’s current progress, comparing it to crossing a vine bridge. He warned that abandoning this path would be akin to cutting the bridge, causing the country to fall into a raging river and underscoring the risks of disrupting the ongoing journey.

The President also criticized the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) manifesto, highlighting that their proposal to reduce taxes would result in a loss of over Rs. 200 billion in state revenue. He argued that, under such conditions, it would be impossible to lower the prices of goods, contrary to the JVP’s claims.

Wickremesinghe questioned the feasibility of the JVP’s economic strategy, suggesting that their plan to manage the economy with reduced income and increased expenses is unrealistic. He accused them of misleading the public, stating that they do not understand the economic calculations required to sustain such proposals.
