Ambassador of Italy to Sri Lanka, Damiano Francovigh, met with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday, the 30th. The meeting highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between Italy and Sri Lanka, with discussions focused on expanding collaboration, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Division.
A primary topic of discussion was foreign employment opportunities in Italy, particularly skilled migration. Prime Minister Amarasuriya emphasized the importance of equipping Sri Lankan migrant workers with relevant skills through the Vocational Training Authority to meet this demand.
Both parties underscored the need for supportive policies to attract tourists and investors, recognizing their roles in boosting Sri Lanka’s economic development.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Alberto Arcidiacono, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Italy, along with key Sri Lankan officials, including Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Mahinda Gunarathne, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister, and Ms. Isurika Karunarathna, Director for the Europe and North America Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
