Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya voiced strong criticism of the previous government’s decision to announce a public sector salary increase without securing the necessary financial backing.
Dr. Amarasuriya noted that although former President Ranil Wickremesinghe promised this salary hike, it was done without proper authorization from the treasury or finance ministry. She further highlighted that despite the announcement, no substantial action has been taken to implement it.
The Prime Minister condemned the move as a misleading election tactic, calling it an unfunded and empty promise designed to influence voters.
