PSC Mandates Strict Guidelines for Public Officials Absent Without Notice

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced that public officials who fail to report to work for more than five consecutive days without prior notice must receive notices of termination within the first five days of their absence.

This directive was introduced following observations that it can take over a year to issue termination notices when government officials do not report to work without notification. The PSC communicated this decision through a circular to all ministry secretaries and department heads.

The commission further highlighted that if a termination notice is issued, any excuses or explanations must be submitted in accordance with Section 216 of the Public Service Commission Procedural Rules. The circular also states that decisions made by the relevant disciplinary authority regarding an officer’s resignation, along with any submitted explanations, must be communicated in writing to the officer.

Additionally, the PSC has specified that officials promoted to the special grade of the Country Wide Services must assume their new positions within 22 working days from the date of their appointment letter. The commission stressed that promotions for officers who fail to report for duty within a month will be cancelled.
