Public Security Ministry to Provide Police Officers for Presidential Election, Confirms Election Commission

The Election Commission has announced that Viyani Gunathilaka, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, has agreed to provide the necessary police officers for the upcoming Presidential Election. This decision follows discussions between Gunathilaka and Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake.

Yesterday, the Election Commission sent a formal letter to the President, seeking a resolution to the issues concerning the Inspector General of Police’s role in election organization. In response, the President’s Secretary instructed Viyani Gunathilaka to coordinate the deployment of police officers to ensure election security.

As a result, the Election Commission requested Gunathilaka to attend a meeting at the Election Secretariat. On Wednesday (31st), the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security confirmed that the President granted special permission for collaboration with the Election Commission regarding police deployment for the Presidential Election.
