Public Urged to Take Precautions as Afternoon Thundershowers Expected Across the Island

The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from lightning, as atmospheric conditions remain conducive to afternoon thundershowers across much of the island.

Showers or thundershowers are expected in most areas after 2:00 p.m. Additionally, the Northern and Eastern provinces, as well as the Hambantota district, may experience showers or thundershowers during the morning.

Heavy rainfall, approximately 100 mm, is likely in some locations within the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Badulla, Galle, and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers of around 75 mm may occur in other areas.

Morning misty conditions are anticipated in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

The public is strongly advised to take precautions against localized strong winds and lightning during these thundershowers.
