The Department of Meteorology has issued a ‘Red’ alert for the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
The advisory, issued at 8:30 a.m. today (12), will remain in effect for the next 24 hours, until 8:30 a.m. on Sunday (13).
According to the advisory, these sea areas will experience very rough conditions, with gusty winds reaching 60-70 km/h. Wave heights may also rise to between 2.5 and 3 meters in the sea areas from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle and Matara.
Naval and fishing communities are advised to exercise caution.
