The Department of Meteorology has issued a ‘Red’ warning for strong winds and rough seas, affecting naval and fishing communities in the deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal.
The department reported that a depression over the Northwest and adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression. As of 1800 UTC on September 8, it was located near 18.9N and 86.3E.
The deep depression is expected to move nearly northwestwards and cross the Odisha coast near Puri at 0600 UTC on September 9.
The warning includes very strong winds of 70-75 km/h, heavy rainfall, and very rough seas over the areas bounded by 13N to 20N and 83E to 95E.
Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas marked in the “Warning” category on the accompanying map. They are also urged to stay updated with future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology.
