The Lawyers’ Collective, a prominent legal advocacy group in Sri Lanka, emphasised the necessity of fully investigating into the resignation of Mullaitivu Magistrate T. Saravanarajah, in order to ensure independence and impartiality.
In a statement, the Lawyers’ Collective stated that it was deeply concerned about reports of the resignation of Mullaitivu Magistrate, T. Saravanarajah alleging that there were threats on his life.
“It is imperative, given the serious implications it has for matters pertaining to the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law, that the matter be fully investigated into with measures to assure independence and impartiality. We believe that transparency is the key,and that the public must be informed of measures taken and the outcome of such inquiry without delay”, the statement added.
