Rising Water Levels in Kuda Ganga Trigger Flood Warning for Bulathsinhala, Palindanuwara, and Madurawala

The water levels in Kuda Ganga are rising, posing flood threats over the next 48 hours in the Bulathsinhala, Palindanuwara, and Madurawala Divisional Secretariat (DS) divisions, according to the Irrigation Department.

Issuing an ‘Amber’ warning, the Irrigation Department reported that considerable rainfall has occurred in the upstream catchment areas of the Kuda Ganga Sub Basin of the Kalu River as of 9:00 a.m. today.

By analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water levels at the Hydrological Stations in Kalu Ganga, it warned that a flood situation could develop in the low-lying areas of Kuda Ganga and Maguru Ganga valleys within the next 48 hours in the Bulathsinhala, Madurawala, and Palindanuwara DS divisions.

The flood warning, effective until 9:00 a.m. on Monday (19), also highlighted the high likelihood of road inundations in the flood plains of Kuda Ganga and Maguru Ganga.

Residents in these low-lying areas and motorists traveling through them are advised to exercise extreme caution. Disaster Management Authorities are urged to take adequate precautions in this regard.
