President’s Counsel Ronald Perera has placed bonds on behalf of President Ranil Wickremesinghe to contest the forthcoming Presidential Election as an independent candidate.
He made the deposit this morning (26th) at the Election Commission Office in Rajagiriya.
The Election Commission announced that deposits for the 2024 Presidential Election can be made from 8:30 am today (26th) until 12 noon on August 14, the day before nominations are called.
A candidate nominated by a recognized political party is required to deposit Rs. 50,000, while a candidate nominated by any other political party or an elector must deposit Rs. 75,000.
Additionally, the Election Commission of Sri Lanka has issued a Gazette notification announcing the dates for the 2024 Presidential Election and the nomination process. According to the Gazette, the Presidential Election will be held on September 21, 2024, and nominations will be accepted on August 15, 2024.
