Russian Ambassador Reaffirms Non-Interference Ahead of Sri Lanka’s Presidential Elections

As Sri Lanka prepares for its upcoming presidential elections, Russian Ambassador Levan Dzhagaryan reiterated Russia’s commitment to non-interference in the domestic affairs of other nations.

“We don’t interfere in your domestic affairs. We don’t lecture you. It’s up to your people to decide who will be the next president of Sri Lanka. We will respect your choice and are ready to work with any president and government elected by your people,” Ambassador Dzhagaryan stated.

The Ambassador also extended his wishes for a peaceful election process and expressed confidence that the next government would continue its policy of neutrality and maintain friendly relations with Russia. “We believe that the next government will continue the policy of neutrality and friendly relations with my country,” he concluded.

Ambassador Dzhagaryan praised Sri Lanka’s balanced and neutral foreign policy, commending the Sri Lankan government for maintaining friendly relations with all nations, in contrast to the approach of Western countries.

“We are very happy that we have a lot of friends, including Sri Lanka,” said Ambassador Dzhagaryan. “I would like to use this opportunity to express my gratitude to the government of Sri Lanka for its balanced, neutral policy. You want to have friendly relations with all countries, and that’s good. Unlike Western countries, we don’t demand that you choose between us and others. You have the right to maintain good relations with everyone.”
