The Ministry of Education has announced that, at the request of the Election Commission, all schools nationwide will be closed on November 13 and 14 due to the 2024 General Elections. Schools are set to reopen on Monday, November 18.
Additionally, all universities will remain closed on November 13 and 14. The Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Prof. Kapila Seneviratne, confirmed that instructions have been issued to the Vice-Chancellors of all universities.
The Election Commission has also directed that employees of both private and public banks, as well as those in the financial sector, be granted leave to cast their votes. The Commission emphasized that this leave must be provided without any reduction in regular holidays or deductions from salaries.
The Election Commission further noted receiving complaints about some banks and financial institutions failing to grant the necessary leave for their employees to vote.
