The Department of Meteorology has announced that showers or thundershowers are expected to occur in most parts of the island during the afternoon or night. Some areas, particularly in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Kalutara, Galle, and Matara districts, may experience heavy rainfall of around 100 mm.
In addition, the Met. Department has issued a severe lightning advisory for several provinces. Thundershowers accompanied by intense lightning are likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, Uva, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura district.
Strong localized winds may temporarily accompany these thundershowers. The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of damage caused by lightning activity.
