Hydro-power generation in the country has significantly increased as a result of the prevailing weather conditions.
Sulakshana Jayawardena, Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy, stated that hydro-power generation was recorded at 20% before the monsoonal rains. Due to the current weather, hydro-power generation has risen to 40%.
Additionally, the water capacity in major rivers across Sri Lanka has increased to 60%, up from 39% prior to the recent weather conditions.
