Significant Surge in Workers’ Remittances: Sri Lanka Registers 57.5% Increase in 2023, Central Bank Reports

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has reported a noteworthy upswing in workers’ remittances for the year 2023, reflecting a remarkable 57.5% increase compared to the preceding year. The cumulative figure for January-December 2023 exhibits substantial growth, reaching a total of USD 5,969.6 million.

Official figures reveal that workers’ remittances in December 2023 amounted to USD 569.7 million, demonstrating a noteworthy rise from the preceding month of November 2023, during which the inflows were recorded at USD 537 million. This surge in remittances indicates a positive trend, contributing significantly to the economic landscape of Sri Lanka.
