The Election Commission of Sri Lanka announced that deposits have been placed for six candidates to contest the 2024 Presidential Election.
This includes two independent candidates and four candidates from recognized political parties.
The independent candidates are President Ranil Wickremesinghe and former MP Sarath Keerthirathne. The other four candidates are Oshala Herath from the ‘Abhinawa Niwahal Peramuna,’ ASP Liyanage of the Sri Lanka Labour Party, Sajith Premadasa of the ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya,’ and P W S K Bandaranayake from the ‘Jathika Sanwardhana Peramuna.’
Additionally, the Election Commission of Sri Lanka issued a Gazette on July 26, stating that the poll for the presidential election will be held on September 21, 2024.
