SLPP Presidential Candidate Namal Rajapaksa Vows to Strengthen Economy and Protect Public Welfare

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa has pledged to prioritize the development of the nation’s economy while ensuring the welfare of the general public is not neglected.

Speaking at a constituency meeting in Mawathagama, Rajapaksa highlighted the SLPP’s consistent history of making decisions in the best interest of the country. “We have never made a political decision that harms the nation. The responsibility and challenge I face now is to advance the country from where President Mahinda Rajapaksa left off in terms of development,” he stated.

Rajapaksa also voiced his concerns over the difficulties faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs), attributing their struggles to the current government’s tax policies. “It is extremely difficult for small and medium businesses today. The current government is enforcing an unlimited and unfair tax policy,” he said, noting that during Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s presidency, the SLPP implemented a more affordable tax policy for the people.

He further assured that the SLPP is ready to take on the responsibility of rebuilding the economy.
