The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has announced that it will reveal its presidential candidate on Wednesday, August 7.
However, several SLPP constituency meetings are passing resolutions to support incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the 2024 presidential election.
Meanwhile, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe has responded to a letter from the party’s General Secretary, Sagara Kariyawasam, stating that disciplinary action will be taken against SLPP members who do not adhere to the politburo’s decision regarding the upcoming election.
Semasinghe has written that neither he nor his supporters are bound by the resolution passed by the politburo on July 29. He also indicated that any disciplinary measures sought by the party will be contested and affirmed that they will make the necessary decisions in light of the current national challenges.
