South Australia is to send “expired” playgrounds to Sri Lanka and other countries, Seven News reported.
According to a Seven News report, Rotary Clubs in South Australia are rebuilding old playgrounds by taking them to countries like Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and East Timor.
Project Leader Mark Clemow said that the playgrounds are in good condition but no more meet certain standards in Australia.
Clemow said that they send playgrounds to communities that have never seen a playground.
Local councils in South Australia say shipping the old playgrounds is cheaper than using them as landfill.
According to the Seven News report, playgrounds in Australia are replaced every 10-15 years, regardless of the condition they are in. (Colombo Gazette)
