In response to the escalating daily dengue cases, Dr. Nalin Ariyaratne, Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, has announced the initiation of a 5-day special dengue control program commencing today in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, and Kalutara.
Dr. Ariyaratne highlighted the concern that the current increase in rainfall may contribute to a future upswing in dengue cases.
The Dengue Control Unit strongly urges residents to proactively eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites in their surroundings to mitigate the risk of dengue transmission.
As of today, the cumulative number of reported dengue cases across the island has surpassed 70,000, with 2,300 new cases reported in the current month alone.
