Sri Lanka and Indonesia Launch Negotiations for Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA)

Sri Lanka and Indonesia officially inaugurated negotiations for the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) on Thursday (March 14).

The negotiations were formally initiated during a virtual meeting led by Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tharaka Balasuriya, and Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Trade, Jerry Sambuaga.

Both ministers emphasized that the commencement of negotiations for the Sri Lanka-Indonesia PTA marks a significant step toward establishing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

They affirmed the mutual commitment of both nations to fortify bilateral trade relations and secure meaningful market access under the proposed PTA.

Balasuriya and Sambuaga expressed optimism regarding the expeditious conduct of the PTA negotiations. They mutually agreed to commence the first round of negotiations at the earliest agreed-upon date.
