The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has issued a Gazette notification announcing the dates for the 2024 Presidential Election and the nomination process.
According to the Gazette, the Presidential Election will be held on September 21, 2024, and nominations will be accepted on August 15, 2024.
The notification states that the term of the current President expires on November 17, 2024, and as stipulated in Article 31 (3) of the Constitution, the election must be held no less than one month and no more than two months before the term’s expiration.
Therefore, the Election Commission has declared August 15, 2024, as the date for candidate nominations, with the office of the Election Commission in Rajagiriya designated as the nomination venue.
The Gazette also confirms that the Presidential Election will take place on September 21, 2024.
