Sri Lanka Anticipates Over 1 Million Tourists by Year-End, Targets 1.5 Million in 2023

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Board (SLTDB) has disclosed its expectation of surpassing 1 million tourist arrivals by the close of this year, with projections indicating a total of 1.5 million tourists visiting the island by the end of 2023.

SLTDB Chairman, Priyantha Fernando, shared insights on the positive trend, revealing that as of the end of November, Sri Lanka had already welcomed 1.2 million tourists. Given this robust influx, achieving the 1.5 million milestone by the conclusion of December appears highly likely.

Fernando further highlighted the significant economic impact of this surge in tourist arrivals, noting that by the end of November 2023, the country had generated an income of Rs. 1.75 billion. The positive trajectory in tourism signals a promising outlook for Sri Lanka’s travel sector, contributing to both economic growth and the nation’s global appeal as a tourist destination.
