Sri Lanka Army Condemns False Social Media Videos Aimed at Damaging Its Reputation

The Sri Lanka Army has strongly denounced recent videos circulated by irresponsible social media content creators, accusing them of spreading false information intended to tarnish the Army’s reputation, erode public trust, and incite hostility against the military.

According to the Army, these videos were created without proper verification and based on misleading claims by a few individuals within the Army, who have limited career prospects. The content was shared to gain publicity on social media platforms.

One such misleading claim suggests that the relocation of troops from certain camps was a rushed decision. However, the Army clarified that these relocations are part of a long-term strategic plan in line with its resizing and restructuring efforts. All Army activities are carried out under the supervision of the Commander of the Army, the Minister of Defence, and the Ministry of Defence, in strict adherence to their directives.

The Army further condemned these baseless videos as an unethical attempt to harm the long-standing, positive relationship between the military and the public. Additionally, the spread of such misinformation could pose a threat to national security if left unchecked.

The Army urges the public to disregard such false narratives and maintain their trust in the military, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to national security and loyalty to the government and country.
