Sri Lanka Customs Sets New Record with Exemplary Earnings Surpassing Rs. 900 Billion in 2023

Customs Media Spokesman Seevali Arukgoda announced that Sri Lanka Customs has achieved unprecedented success by recording earnings exceeding Rs. 900 billion in 2023. This accomplishment follows the department’s remarkable performance in the previous year when it garnered Rs. 970 billion, marking its highest-ever annual earnings in its entire history.

Arukgoda highlighted that the revenue collected for 2023 demonstrated a remarkable 138% increase compared to the figures of 2022. Originally, the Ministry of Finance had set an ambitious target of Rs. 1,217 billion for the year 2023. However, facing economic challenges, the target was subsequently revised to Rs. 893 billion.

Even though the final earnings fell slightly below the revised target, the achieved revenue for 2023 stands as the highest ever recorded in a single year. It is noteworthy that in 2018, Sri Lanka Customs had previously set a high bar by reaching a revenue of Rs. 923 billion, emphasizing the department’s consistent efforts in contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth.
