Sri Lanka Election Commission Suspends Suraksha Insurance and Urumaya Land Deed Programs Ahead of Presidential Election

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has issued a directive to temporarily halt two significant government initiatives—the Suraksha Student Insurance Program and the Urumaya Land Deed Program—in light of the upcoming Presidential Election.

The Secretary to the President has been formally notified in writing to suspend these programs until the Presidential Election is concluded, according to the country’s elections chief.

Chairman of the Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Rathnayake, emphasized that there were no issues with the programs themselves. However, he stressed the importance of a temporary pause to ensure fairness and transparency during the electoral process.
