The Sri Lankan government has prolonged the deadline for inviting proposals from potential investors interested in acquiring SriLankan Airlines, marking the second extension in the privatization process. K. D. S. Ruwanchandra, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Naval, and Aviation Services, announced that the revised deadline for proposal submissions is now February 16, 2024. This extension follows the prior deadline of January 8, itself an extension from the original December 5 deadline.
According to Ruwanchandra, the decision to extend the deadline once again is aimed at attracting a more diverse pool of potential investors. The privatization of SriLankan Airlines stands as a pivotal element of the government’s economic reform plan.
