Sri Lanka has officially entered into an agreement with Israel, permitting the deployment of Sri Lankan workers to be engaged in Israel’s agricultural sector, as confirmed by Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Bandula Gunawardana.
The Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to a proposal submitted by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, outlining the terms of the agreement. According to the Department of Government Information, the Population, Immigration, and Territory Authority of Israel will oversee the recruitment of labor specifically for agricultural activities.
Minister Gunawardana emphasized that the safety and security of Sri Lankan workers will be of the utmost priority.
It’s worth noting that this development occurs against the backdrop of Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Recently, the remains of a Sri Lankan individual who tragically lost their life due to the Israel-Hamas conflict were repatriated to Sri Lanka.
