Sri Lanka Navy Apprehends Six Indian Nationals and Two Trawlers for Poaching near Delft Islands

In a special operation conducted on Monday night (22 Jan.), the Sri Lanka Navy successfully took into custody six Indian nationals along with two fishing trawlers engaged in poaching in local waters north of Delft Islands, Jaffna.

The apprehension was part of the Navy’s efforts to deter foreign fishing vessels from engaging in illegal activities within Sri Lankan waters. Following the operation, the detained Indian nationals and their trawlers were transported to the Kankasanthurai Harbour. They are slated to be handed over to the Mailadi Fisheries Inspector for further legal proceedings, as reported by the Navy.
