Sri Lanka Pledges to Reduce Trade Barriers, Invites South Asian Businesses to Invest in Renewable Energy

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to reducing trade barriers in a bid to enhance cooperation, trade, and investment across the South Asian region.

Speaking at the South Asian Trade Fair 2024, the Prime Minister extended an invitation to private sector businesses within the region to explore opportunities in the renewable energy sector, highlighting its significant economic potential.

The South Asian Trade Fair 2024, organized by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) in collaboration with the SAARC Chamber of Commerce, recently commenced in Colombo.

The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and was attended by prominent officials, including SAARC Secretary General Golam Sarwar, SAARC Chamber of Commerce President Jashim Uddin, FCCISL President Keerthi Gunawardane, along with representatives from various business chambers, and High Commissioners and Ambassadors from South Asian countries.

A special commemorative stamp and a first-day cover were also issued during the event to mark the opening of the South Asian Trade Fair 2024.
