Sri Lanka Post Grants Permission for Investment Project in Iconic Nuwara Eliya Post Office Building

Sri Lanka Post has officially granted permission for the utilization of the historic Nuwara Eliya Post Office building for an investment project. The Urban Development Authority (UDA) is slated to spearhead the development of this iconic structure in the near future.

Prasad Ranaweera, the Director General of UDA, informed News 1st that the progression of this project will commence once the existing post office is relocated. The Nuwara Eliya Post Office, constructed in 1894 during the colonial period, stands as one of the few ancient structures owned by the Sri Lanka Postal Department.

Built in accordance with the Victorian Model, representing the UK building culture, the Nuwara Eliya Post Office holds significant historical value and serves as a prominent landmark that captivates visitors to Nuwara Eliya. Referred to affectionately by tourists as “The Pink Post Office,” this building stands as a testament to the region’s architectural and cultural heritage.
