Sri Lanka is on track to surpass its ambitious goal of welcoming 2.3 million tourists in 2024, reflecting significant growth from the over 1.4 million tourists recorded in 2023.
As of October 2024, the country had already welcomed 1,620,715 tourists, signaling strong momentum in the tourism sector. According to the latest data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, October alone saw 135,907 arrivals, an increase from the 122,140 arrivals recorded in September.
This October also reported more than 20,000 additional arrivals compared to the same period last year, with the highest weekly arrivals—31,076—occurring in the fourth week of the month.
India leads in tourist numbers to Sri Lanka, with 322,973 visitors so far this year. The United Kingdom follows with 146,670 arrivals, while substantial numbers of tourists have also arrived from Russia, Germany, China, and France.
