Sri Lanka to Host New Zealand for Two-Match Test Series Amid Presidential Election

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced today that Sri Lanka will host New Zealand for a two-match Test series next month, coinciding with the country’s presidential election.

The first Test is set to begin on September 18 at Galle International Cricket Stadium. However, there will be a scheduled rest day on September 21, coinciding with the election day, according to the SLC.

These Test matches are part of the ICC World Test Championship Cycle for 2023–2025.

The series will commence with the first Test from September 18 to 23, followed by the second Test from September 26 to 30, both at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.

New Zealand last toured Sri Lanka in August 2019, where they drew a two-match Test series with the hosts.

Next month’s presidential election marks the first national poll since Sri Lanka declared a sovereign default in 2022 during an unprecedented economic crisis.
