The Government of Sri Lanka will begin issuing new, efficient, and safe e-Passports to its citizens starting from January 1, 2025, according to an announcement by the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
In a statement, the Department of Immigration and Emigration explained that the application process for passports will be streamlined with a new methodology designed to ease the process for applicants.
From July 16, 2024, applicants must register in advance on the official website https://www.immigration.gov.lk to apply for Sri Lankan passports.
The statement emphasized that only applicants with prior registration should visit the Head Office and Regional Offices of the Department of Immigration and Emigration. Individuals without prior registration are advised not to visit these offices.
The department also noted that after registration, applicants will receive priority in obtaining their passports.
