The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced that Sri Lanka will soon receive 750,000 new passports.
According to the department, 100,000 passports are expected by the end of November, followed by an additional 150,000 in December. So far, 50,000 passports have already been delivered under an agreement with the foreign agency awarded the procurement tender.
The department added that the process for procuring an additional batch of passports is underway. Currently, 1,600 passports are issued daily, and a program is being implemented to ensure a sufficient supply.
To streamline passport issuance, the department is also preparing an online system for applicants to reserve a date and time for their appointments, which will be launched in the near future.
