Sri Lankan Fishing Boats Stranded in Indian Ocean, Rescue Mission Underway

Two fishing boats carrying nine Sri Lankan fishermen met with an accident in the Indian Ocean, approximately 300 kilometers from Seychelles.

The vessels, identified as Blue Ocean 02 and Blue Ocean 06, had departed from Dikowita port on June 30th, bound for Somalia.

These boats were part of a fishing operation organized by a Dubai-based businessman, who had purchased the vessels for Sri Lankan fishermen to use off the coast of Somalia.

The unexpected accident has left the fishermen stranded without food, water, or fuel.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Seychelles has confirmed that a rescue mission is currently underway.

A senior official reported that a Seychelles Coast Guard vessel has reached the stranded boats. The rescue team is providing the fishermen with essential supplies, including food and fuel, while efforts to bring them to safety continue.
