The new Sri Lankan government has reaffirmed its commitment to the IMF-supported program to achieve key fiscal and debt targets, according to Krishna Srinivasan, IMF Director for the Asia-Pacific Department.
Following the government’s inauguration, an IMF mission visited Sri Lanka and held productive discussions with the president and his team. These talks highlighted Sri Lanka’s substantial progress under the program and stressed the importance of preserving and building on these achievements.
“The new government is fully committed to the IMF-supported program, both in terms of the fiscal targets and debt targets,” Srinivasan stated, noting that discussions have been positive and will continue.
A Sri Lankan delegation recently visited Washington to advance these discussions, and an IMF mission will soon return to Sri Lanka for the next program review.
