Sri Lanka’s Inflation Rate Drops to -0.7% in October 2024

The overall inflation rate in Sri Lanka, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), declined to -0.7% in October 2024, down from -0.2% in September 2024, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.

Food inflation also experienced a decline, registering -0.16% in October, compared to 0.5% in September 2024.

The NCPI for all items stood at 203.6 for October 2024, reflecting a decrease of -0.5 index points from the previous month.

The month-on-month change was driven by reductions in both food and non-food categories, with food items contributing -0.16% and non-food items accounting for -0.35%.

These figures highlight a continued trend of deflationary pressures in the economy, with both food and non-food sectors showing notable price declines.
