The Ministry of Power and Energy in Sri Lanka has unveiled plans to initiate a tender process for the construction of a new wind farm in Mannar. This announcement follows the successful completion of a 100-megawatt wind farm in the same region.
A senior official from the Ministry of Power and Energy highlighted that the upcoming wind farm is projected to generate a capacity of 50 megawatts, making a substantial contribution to the country’s renewable energy portfolio.
In tandem with the wind farm initiative, the Ministry has also issued tenders for the development of solar power plants with a combined capacity of 165 megawatts. This strategic move aligns with the government’s continuous efforts to diversify energy sources and diminish reliance on fossil fuels.
The Ceylon Electricity Board has committed to purchasing the electricity generated by these new projects. The purchase price will be determined through negotiations with the selected companies or individuals awarded the tenders.
