Sri Lanka’s National Film Corporation Forms Expert Committee to Revamp Film Distribution

The National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka has established an expert committee to overhaul the country’s film distribution system.

Chairman Deepal Chandraratne stated that the committee includes representatives from all segments of the cinema sector.

The committee’s primary task is to develop recommendations to replace the current distribution process, which is limited to four boards.

This initiative aims to create a free film distribution system that fosters growth and innovation within the industry.

The expert committee’s findings will be submitted to the Cabinet, paving the way for potential policy changes and regulatory reforms in the film industry.

Chandraratne added that the Cabinet has approved amendments to the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka Act.

This legislation, unchanged since its enactment in 1972, is set to be modernized to align with contemporary industry standards.

With this initiative, the government aims to address these concerns and create a more conducive environment for filmmakers.
