State Minister Announces Possibility of Electricity Tariff Reduction in May

State Minister of Power and Energy, Indika Anuruddha Herath, has revealed the potential for a reduction in electricity tariffs in May.

During a media briefing at the President’s Media Center on Tuesday (30), the State Minister disclosed that an electricity tariff revision is slated for May, with the relevant data to be submitted to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).

He further explained that this data will encompass the expenses associated with each power plant.

State Minister Indika Anuruddha emphasized the government’s intention to provide concessions to the public, leveraging the 120MW addition to the power grid from the Uma Oya Multi-Purpose Development project.

Highlighting the significance of this addition, he noted that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) can reduce diesel consumption for generating equivalent electricity during nighttime.

He also stressed the transparency of the process, inviting individuals to scrutinize and calculate the implications if they so desire.
